My Son is Asian and My Daughter Is….
Growing up I loved the 4th of July. The neighborhood pool parties, the eight different kinds of potato salad, the cheezy decorations, and of course the fireworks. But this year the 4th of July has a different meaning for me. In the midst of so many political discussions of what it means to be an American I remain a conspicuous family. I am proud of my family’s blend of Kentucky meets Texan meets German/Scotch-Irish meets Chinese. And I am equally proud to live in a community that accepts, and welcomes, families such as mine.
I wanted to share an article I recently wrote for adoption.com. I am a new Staff Storyteller with the online publication and am thrilled to have another outlet to share our adoption story. When it came time to decide how we would continue to build our family, an interesting question came up: Should I Adopt Two Children of the Same Race?
